Great Performance

Carmarthen Quins Under 8s welcomes Narberth on Sunday. The Quins squad were keen to keep up performances after a great game against Llandovery two weeks previously. Narberth arrived with the larger squad and the Quins knew they would have to be at their best with fewer players.

It was Narberth who started the quickest and with quick hands they crossed the try line first. Narberth seemed to possess a great all round game and it after some little mistakes from the Quins the ball was turned over and Narberth cross for another. This unfortunately for the Quins was the story of the first half, but not once did heads drop as each of the players gave their all.

After a short break the game resumed and it was the Quins who were out of the blocks first tagging quickly pushing Narberth back and gaining a turnover. Quick passing and spotting spaces were the tale of the second half with Macs Hastings showing his speed and mazy running to cross for tries, Ioan James took route one and pinned his ears back to cross, Louie Thomas used long strides to clear the defence to get over the try line one of which saw him receive a dive pass almost to the floor but he picked the ball up off his feet and set off with the defence at sixes and sevens as they didn’t think he would have caught it. and Rhys Evans danced up the touch line to leave defenders in his wake and score.

The try scorers couldn’t have played them part in the game had it not been for some quick tagging that left coaches and spectators breathless as tag after tag were taken. Fin Robinson read the game perfectly and was like a silent assassin taking the tags when it mattered, Lloyd Thomas seemed to be everywhere and didn’t give a Narberth a moment on the ball often getting multi tags in one play. Elliw Williams a recent addition to the squad was phenomenal plucking tags off when many would have given up hope.

A real solid performance from all involved against a very well coached Narberth which would have been a spectacle for the neutral. Carmarthen Quins Under 8s players chose Elliw Williams as their player of the match this week and it was well deserved although as a team anyone could have had a chance. The squad are counting down the weeks before they attend the Scarlets Champions Cup Quarter Final where they will be playing a game at half time.

With one eye on the future if there are any players who would like to join this side then training is on a Friday evening and games on a Sunday contact details can be found under the junior section of the Quins website or on Facebook.
