On a bitterly cold Sunday morning Carmarthen Quins Under 8s welcomed their counterparts form Kidwelly in a game that defied conditions and whilst the players kept running to keep warm the performance buy both sides kept supporters at least a degree warmer on the touch line.

Joint captains for the Morning Lloyd Thomas and Rhys Evans won the toss and opted to run with the ball first and after a number of slick passes Louie Thomas outstripped the defence for the fist of his tries of those morning. Next to cross for his first was Ioan James who spotted a gap pinned his ears back and made the line with defenders trailing in his wake.

Not to be outdone by his twin brother Co Captain Lloyd Thomas got in on the scoring act with a lovely run up The touch line before sidestepping his way past the last defender. The game continued to be tit for tat with Kidwelly showing some some class passing and moves to score their own tries.

Next on the score sheet was Co Captain Rhys Evans who arced to the touchline before straightening up and increasing speed to a sprint to score in the corner with Kidwelly agonising close to getting a hand on his tags.

Following a spilled ball the ever present  Elliw Williams pounced on the ball and deftly passed it on to Kian Williams who darter over for a score on his first game for the team. The game continued to be played at a pace with tries being scored by both sides and considering the biting wind the skills on show were first class and a credit to both clubs.

The Quins player of the match selected by the Kidwelly Coach was Elliw Williams who was outstanding with her tagging and general all round reading of the game to get in position to run down attackers and stop play. Congratulations Elliw.

The next fixture is scheduled to be played on Sunday 25th March away to Loughor which will be followed by an appearance on the Parc y Scarlets pitch at half time during the Scarlets’ Champions Cup Quarter Final against La Rochelle on Good Friday where the Might Young Quins will face Tenby.

The team took to the field in their newly sponsored shirts and big thanks must be given to Well Drilling, Mike and Sue Evans, The Blue Boar and the New Stags Head for their generous sponsorship of this extremely talented group of players
