Sunday 7th April was all about cup rugby for the Under 12s, 13s, 14s and Girls Under 18s. First up were the Under 12s playing in the Carmarthenshire Cup Final against each rivals Carmarthen Athletic. In glorious conditions the young Quins side turned in a workmanlike performance covering all the basics required and held off for a fantastic 15 points to 5 win. The professional approach in the build up to the game certainly paid off.
Next up were the Under 13s who were really up against it, playing against Burry Port who at times have been their nemesis and have had real difficulty beating. In a heart stopping game that went down to the wire and with the Quins throwing everything at Burry Port it came down to one final kick of the game on the final whistle that even the most seasoned player would have felt pressure but the kick sailed through the posts for a 20-19 victory and the tag of Under 13s Cup Winners.
Third to go were the Under 14s who were up against Burry Port and in a game that entertained the neutrals as well as the supporters the Quins fell short and were unlucky to be defeated 24 points to 15 but the score line didn't reflect the effort and endeavour of the team who will come back better and stronger next season.
Finally the girls Under 18s entertained arguably the best Under 18s team in Wales at the Park when Cardiff Quins came to town for the Cup Quarter Final. Having previously won the league it was Carmarthen Quins hoping to win the game and have a shot at the Double but alas in highly entertaining and spirited encounter they just fell short losing to their City rivals 24 points to 15.
All in all it was a successful day for Carmarthen Quins RFC with the conveyor belt of talent continuing to grow a great group of players who will be trying to emulate Osian Knott and Jac Price who have recently won Age Grade Caps for Wales (at Under 19s and Under 20s respectively) having started their rugby journey in the Cardinal, Amber and Black of the Quins.
The club Motto Llwyddiant Trwy Ymdrech or Success Through Endeavour is absolutely spot on as each age group of the club strives to improve and with that comes successes. The Under 12s and 13s now progress to finals day on 12th May at Parc y Scarlets where they will aim to become Regional Champions, details of the games will follow on the sections social media accounts.
As always if there is any parents of children out there who think their child would like to try the game of rugby whilst the season is nearly over for this year please do not hesitate to contact officials for more information. Contact details can be found on https://carmarthen.rfc.wales
