In a packed morning at Abergwili with all age groups at home on Remembrance Sunday, Carmarthen Quins Under 9's welcomed their counterparts from Tycroes and Penybanc for a Round Robin of fixtures.

The morning commenced with over 30 players and coaches from the three teams linking arms to impeccably observe a minutes silence remembering the fallen of conflicts in days gone and those past and present service men and women who keep our country safe. This mark of respect was replicated by all age groups and teams in attendance and was a credit to all clubs.

The Quins started the morning with a fixture against Tycroes who have become regular opponents this season and to Tycroes' credit they have continued to develop through the early part of the season. Captain Louie Thomas won the toss and elected to start the game and through some swift passing from Lucas Bletchley and Lucas Lewis it wasn't long before Ioan james crossed for his first try of the morning.

From the re-start the well organised Quins team made their presence felt with some mammoth tackles forcing Tycroes into either making a mistake or turning the ball over after the sixth tackle. From one resultant turnover Captain Louie Thomas led by example and outstripped the defence for a brilliant solo effort much to the delight of all spectators.

The Quins were workmanlike in their performance and Kian Williams continued his development by making some big carries with the ball and bone shuddering tackles in defence. Lucas Lewis only playing his third game of rugby for the team showed tremendous courage and heart in covering almost every blade of grass causing confusion in the opposition ranks.

Sion Jones used his strength and eye for the  gap to add a try in the second period of play following some tremendous work by Fin Robinson who has an ability to read the game well closing down the space for the opposition and making them make mistakes. Rhys Evans found his way tothe try line to add to try tally following some excellent defensive tackles from Lloyd Thomas and Matthew Stirling that gave the Quins a platform to move into attack.

At the end of the game the final score was Carmarthen Quins 7 tries Tycroes 3 Tries.

Following a short break the Quins were eager to go again against Penybanc and Captain Lloyd Thomas followed his brothers example and led from the front. Penybanc started the game but through excellent line speed the Quins were soon in possession and quick thinking and hands from Fin Robinson set Louie Thomas off who made the line with defenders grasping at thin air such was his pace.

Desperate to try and break the Quins defence Penybanc tried to offload in the tackle only to be met by a wall of Cardinal, Amber and Black shirts as wave after wave of attack was set back allowing the Quins to regroup and go on the attack. From a scrum following a knock on Rhys Evans changed direction to pass to the short side where he found Matthew Stirling who had read the situation to make good yards before a great offload to Ioan James who side stepped past the last defender to add to his tally.

Growing in confidence the Quins began their own offloading and mazy running by Lucas Bletchley had the defence confused and he passed on to Sion Jones who went the only way the coaches wanted and that was forward for his next score.

Not to be outdone by his brother Lloyd Thomas was efficient with the ball in hand looking for space and his teammates to off load and in the second half gave a master class in tackling. It is easy to give plaudits to the try scorers but it is the hard work done by Lloyd Thomas,  Fin Robinson and Lucas Lewis on the tackling side that gave the Quins the ball with which to set up the try scoring opportunities.

In the last play of the game Kian Williams bullocked his way through from the Quins' own half with determination that set up the final try of the game that saw the final score Quins 7 tries Penybanc 2.

In the final game of the morning Tycroes ran out winners against Penybanc in an entertaining end to end game. It was a great spectacle all morning with over 30 under 9's enjoying the morning and playing some fantastic rugby.
