Young Quins Hit The Ground Running

Carmarthen Quins Mini and Junior Section have hit the ground running for the 2019/2020 season and with the Rugby World Cup on the horizon it is hoped that this will help continue the momentum that has been building during pre season.

On Sunday the 8th September the mini and junior sections of Carmarthen Quins RFC were in action for the first time of the new season. With many new recruits in the close season all fixtures were eagerly anticipated.

At Abergwili teams from Tumble and Felinfoel visited and in bright sunny weather all was set fair for some great rugby. The under 7’s and Under 8’s team took to the field and with some playing their first ever games they were victorious against both Tumble and Felinfoel.  Next up were the under 9’s who were playing their first game of contact rugby and with smiles all round they emerged with a 10 tries to 3 win against Tumble. The under 10s continued their rugby journey with new rules to consider by taking on Tumble and gaining a 12 tries to 1 victory. The Under 11s continued where they left off last season with two games against Tumble and Felinfoel and won both the games without conceding a try. All in all there was a great spectacle of rugby from the mini section at Abergwili.

The junior section of the club were all on the road this weekend with the exception of the Under 12s who had an additional rest week. The under 13’s visited Pontardulais and made their mark scoring 9 tries in a 55 – 17 victory. The under 14s travelled the furthest taking on Kenfig Hill in an exhilarating game against much bigger opposition with even bigger hits and were unlucky to be on the side of a 44 – 36 defeat. The under 15s finished the day away at Ammanford winning 24 points to 7.

All in all it was a successful weekend and a great start to the 2019/2020 rugby season. With more games next week and beyond including the start of the season for the Girls under 15’s and under 18’s teams there will be plenty more rugby and future talent on show from the Mighty Quins.

It is not too late to join the Quins with the age groups listed below having some spaces available should you know of anyone who would like to take up rugby or maybe come back to rugby if they have tried it before. For our under 7’s and 8s we have a very special introductory offer of £25 registration.

The section has a proud tradition in developing players for the senior side and age grade honours with both the Scarlets and Wales. Several Age Groups within the Junior section were cup winners last season and it is hoped this can continue as the club moves forward.
