Success Through Endeavour

Carmarthen Quins Under 12s and 13s played the last games of the season in the Regional Cup Finals at Parc y Scarlets. Having earlier won the Carmarthenshire Cup at their respective age groups this had earned them the right to appear at Finals day.

The Under 12s were up first as they took on Haverfordwest. In blazing sunshine the Quins side were steady in their game play and wore down a resilient Haverfordwest team. In a game that was end to end it was the Quins who held their nerve to take the game 12 – 10 sparking celebrations in the stand and pitchside.

Next up was the Under 13s who faced Pembroke. The Quins side took the game by the scruff of the neck from the off and it was not long before the scoreboard was ticking over in their favour. To their credit the Pembroke never gave up and managed to cross the Quins line themselves but the Quins team were not going be denied the additional silverware and finally ran out winners 32 – 12

Special thanks must go to First XV Captain Haydn Pugh who made himself available for the both Quins teams during the morning and he was delighted to have been part of it, but it goes to show that the Quins has a one club and family philosophy.

With the Under 14s also making the area finals back in April the mini and junior section of Carmarthen Quins is looking in fine form and strong for the future of the club as a whole. It was a fitting way to end the season with two more cups in the trophy cabinet but also as the Club turns 145 years old next season it is plain to see that the conveyor belt of talent will be vital as the club maintains its place.

Four Quins players also featured in the victorious Carmarthen and District Under 11s team that won the national bowl 7s competition at Dunvant on Saturday. Three are pictured holding the cup Gwinnett Evans, Carwyn Jones and Ben Morgan, but Cameron Williams also played in the national Bowl success.

With the season at an end the players can now enjoy a well earned break but with an eye on the next season if anyone has a child that would like to join the Quins family then please keep an eye on social media over the next couple of months when dates for training will be announced with teams from under 7’s to under 15’s and girls Under 15s and Under 18s the Club is certainly thriving and is providing plenty of opportunities for the youth of the area.
